Our Mission

Service. Trust. Community.

The Wise County Sheriff's Posse is a volunteer organization built around one idea: law enforcement and the community are stronger when they work together.

We support the Sheriff's Office and every police department in Wise County. We show up at community events, we respond when we're called, and we put a serious focus on building real connections with the youth here. Because the trust we build today shapes what Wise County looks like for the next generation.

Bridge the Gap

We connect law enforcement and citizens. We support the Sheriff's Office while strengthening the community fabric of Wise County, one relationship at a time.

Mounted Assistance

When law enforcement needs to reach terrain a vehicle can't access, we're there on horseback. We respond when called, not automatically, but reliably.

Youth Engagement

Building honest, positive connections between law enforcement and the next generation of Wise County leaders. This is one of our most important priorities, and we take it seriously.

Community Presence

You'll see us at parades, community events, and public gatherings throughout every city in Wise County. Visible, approachable, and proud to be here.

Our Story

A Tradition Reborn. A Modern Mission

Captain Darrell Martin didn't just talk about supporting Wise County law enforcement. He rebuilt this organization from scratch and funded it himself.

We're independent from the Sheriff's Office. We support, we don't deputize. When they need us, we show up.

After years of dormancy, the Posse is back. Darrell Martin, the businessman reviving it, kicked things off with a Lamborghini rally car from his own collection. Not exactly a typical relaunch. But that's kind of the point.

Captain Martin also serves as co-chair of the K9s.org Foundation, adding charitable credibility to the organization's leadership.

No. Horse riding experience is welcomed but not required. There are multiple ways to get involved and contribute to the Posse's mission. If you own a horse and can ride, you're welcome to participate in mounted activities like parades and events. But if you don't, there's still a place for you here.

No. We are an independent civilian volunteer organization. We support the Wise County Sheriff's Office and local police departments when requested, but we are not an official arm of law enforcement. Membership in the Posse does not give anyone law enforcement authority of any kind.

Once we receive your application, the Board of Directors reviews it at their next scheduled meeting. You'll typically hear back within 30 days. The full swearing-in process can take up to 90 days, but approved applicants are welcome to participate in Posse activities during that time.

Any Wise County resident who is 18 or older and shares our commitment to supporting law enforcement and serving the community is encouraged to apply. Annual membership dues are $200 and cover the remainder of the calendar year you apply.
